Lynwood McPherson, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away June 17, 2018, Father’s Day Morning. He was born in Port Huron, MI to the late Ray and Olive (Kivel) McPherson.
Survivors include his wife Doris, daughter Sheila, son Shawn; two beloved grandchildren PaPa’s boys’ Kendall and Shannon; his brother Jim McPherson and sister Helen Brown; Sister-in-Law Margie Kerchner and very special nephew Jim Gamble and niece Vicki Pattison along with several nieces and nephews. Lynwood was preceded in death by his daughter Shannon McPherson; his sisters Vera, Lila, Alice; his brothers Mel and Don.
Lynwood served in the United States Army. His first job at a young age was at a grocery store in Port Huron. Short of his time in the Army, he never left the grocery world. He worked numerous years as the produce manager for all the 7-11 stores in Indianapolis starting out at 46th and College and then in later years primarily at 28th and Capitol, 34th and Fairfield and 30th and Sherman. The stores were named “Double 8” in his latter years with the business. He took pride in putting in a good day’s work when his health permitted it. Often times his health didn’t permit it but Lynwood always found a way to operate beyond his physical limits.
Although Lynwood lived in Indianapolis, Port Huron was always home. He enjoyed going home and playing Euchre with his brothers, nephews and family. In Indianapolis that love of playing cards continued as he and his wife Doris played 500 Rummy daily.
Lynwood was his children’s biggest cheerleader. He loved following his twin girls’ basketball journey. Even when they had a bad game, he’d always find a positive or he’d make a joke with his keen sense of humor and make his kids forget about the game.
His sense of humor was sharp and entertaining. Both of his beloved grandsons picked up his sense of humor and comedic timing, especially Kendall. Perhaps the job he took the most pride in was being a grandfather. He might not have gotten it all right as a parent but he perfected being a grandfather. Although Kendall and Shannon called him PaPa he assumed the role of Father on a daily basis for them, especially in raising Kendall from birth to present.
The bond between PaPa and his boys was powerful beyond measure. Lynwood was constant love, laughter and strength. He was a protector and provider but a nurturer by nature.
A memorial service will be held June 24th, 2018 from 1:30-3:30 PM with refreshments to follow at Orchard Park Church 1605 E. 106th St. Indianapolis, IN 46280.

Geri Banks says
You and your family are in my prayers during this time. Lynn will be remembered for his kind heart and since of humor. I remember the days in Nora Pines and the time he grilled up a bunch of steaks and baked potatoes for the neighbors. What a time we had. He will be missed by his grandsons.
